Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is often called the “silent killer” because it can develop without any noticeable symptoms. Yet, it can lead to very serious health issues like heart disease, stroke, aneurysms, vision loss, and kidney damage if left unchecked.

Signs of hypertension include: persistent headaches, dizziness/light-headedness, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, and blurred vision. But… many people have no symptoms at all.

Ways you can manage your blood pressure:

  1. Keep track of your blood pressure with a home monitor or at Primary Care Partners.
  2. Eat meals with lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit sodium and saturated fats.
  3. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days.
  4. Limit alcohol and avoid smoking.
  5. Use mindfulness, meditation, and time management to reduce stress.
  6. Take medication as directed by your primary care provider.
