Are you up to date with your vaccinations? As adults, we often forget that staying current with vaccines is just as important as when we were kids. Vaccinations are a safe and effective way to protect yourself, your family, and your community from potentially harmful diseases. At Primary Care Partners of South Bend, we offer a range of vaccinations tailored to adult needs, ensuring you stay healthy and protected.

Vaccinations not only protect you but also contribute to the overall health of the community. They prevent the spread of diseases, reduce the risk of complications, and help maintain public health. While side effects are generally mild, such as soreness at the injection site, the benefits of vaccines far outweigh the risks. Severe side effects are extremely rare.

Key Vaccinations for Adults:

  • Seasonal Vaccines: Seasonal Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are recommended annually, especially for those with weakened immune systems.
  • Pneumococcal Vaccine: Updated pneumonia vaccines are recommended even if you have already received a version of the vaccine in the past. These vaccines are essential for those over 65, smokers, and individuals with conditions like COPD, diabetes, or asthma.
  • Meningitis Vaccine: Especially recommended for people living with immunocompromising conditions like HIV, after spleen removal, and sickle cell disease. It is also essential for those living in close quarters like dorms or military housing.
  • HPV Vaccine: This vaccine is recommended for everyone up to age 45, but the earlier you get it, the better.
  • Varicella and Shingles Vaccines: The Varicella vaccine is for those who haven’t had chickenpox, and the shingles vaccine is for adults 50 and older, or 45 is for those living with immunocompromising conditions. Those who received the old version (Zostavax) should receive a new version (Shingrix).
  • Tdap Vaccine: This vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). A tetanus booster is needed every ten years or after severe wounds.
  • HebB Vaccine: Recommended for all adults without proven vaccine series or proven immunity through blood titer.
  • Travel Vaccines are often necessary for international travel. Make an appointment to discuss the required travel vaccines for your destination.
  • Pregnant Women Vaccines: Those planning to become pregnant should have a MMR vaccine at least 12 months prior. Tdap and RSV vaccines are recommended for pregnant women toward the end of their pregnancy.
  • Senior Vaccines: Seniors need regular vaccine updates for flu, pneumococcal, RSV, shingles, and any necessary boosters.
